What are some basic video marketing tips for companies?

Video is one of the most effective ways to show who you are, explain what you do and build trust with potential clients before they ever talk to you. You don't need a big budget to get started. A modern smartphone, good lighting and a clear plan go a long way.

Videos every company can create

1. About Us video
Introduce your team, your values and what makes your company different. Focus on people and how you help clients rather than just your office. This gives viewers a chance to get to know you before they call or meet you.

2. Product or service explainer
Show how your product or service works and what problems it solves. A short demo or explainer answers questions quickly and saves viewers from digging through your website.

3. FAQ videos
Answer the questions prospects ask most often, such as pricing, process, timelines, or "Who is this for?" A series of short FAQ videos, one question each, works better than one long video.

4. Client testimonials and case studies
Real clients describing their results are some of the most persuasive content you can create.

For financial firms: testimonials and endorsements are regulated. Check with your compliance team before recording or sharing them.

5. Educational videos
Share quick tips, how-tos, industry updates or market commentary. Educational content builds your reputation as an expert and gives people a reason to follow you.

6. Short social clips
Short vertical videos, under about 60–90 seconds, perform well on YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, Instagram Reels and TikTok. You can often cut them from longer videos, webinars or podcast episodes.

Tips for effective videos

  • Hook viewers fast. Say what the video is about, and why it matters to the viewer, in the first few seconds.
  • Keep it focused. Stick to one main message per video.
  • Match length to purpose:
    • Social clips: under 90 seconds.
    • Explainers and FAQs: 1–3 minutes.
    • In-depth education and demos: longer is fine.
  • Add captions. Many people watch videos with the sound off, and captions make your videos accessible to everyone.
  • Prioritize sound and light. Viewers forgive simple video but not bad audio. Use a basic microphone and face a window or soft light.
  • Include a call to action. Tell viewers what to do next, such as "Schedule a consultation" or "Download our guide," and include the link.
  • Show your brand. Use your logo, colors and a consistent intro or end screen.

Where to share your videos

  • YouTube: the second-largest search engine and a great home for your video library.
  • Your website: add videos to relevant pages, such as About, Services and FAQs.
  • LinkedIn: especially effective for B2B and professional audiences.
  • Email: a video thumbnail that links to the video can improve clicks in newsletters and sales emails.
  • HubSpot: if you use HubSpot, you can add videos to pages, emails and CTAs, and track how contacts engage with them.

To help people find your videos, write clear, keyword-rich titles and descriptions, create an eye-catching thumbnail, and add a transcript where possible.

Measure what's working

Track these numbers to see which videos connect with your audience:

  • Views and watch time: how many people watch, and for how long.
  • Completion rate: how many viewers watch to the end.
  • Clicks and conversions: how many take the next step, such as visiting your website or filling out a form.

Use what you learn to guide your next videos: make more of what works and adjust what doesn't.
